EARLY WARNING
August’s meeting will be a short walk lead by Eric and Jean, in Church Stretton, to view a landscaped garden originally created in the 18th century by the then rector of the town, heavily influenced by his friend
Lancelot “Capability‟ Brown.
Features in the woodland grounds are a Gothic folly and yew ringed pool which are shown on the map of 1767, with the slightly later addition of an ice-house. Extensive restoration has been undertaken over the last couple of years, including thinning the plant growth and restoration of many of the original paths and viewpoints.
After the walk we will retire to The Bucks Head Inn where we can partake of a meal. The menu will be issued in next month’s newsletter and your choice (and money) will be required soon after the publication date so please be prepared to act promptly. Sorry but we have been unable to organise the menu sooner, but the publican is currently on holiday.
Shropshire Smallholders Group meets at 7.30pm on the second Thursday of the month at Longnor Village Hall, just off the A49. The usual format of a meeting is a talk by an expert guest speaker followed by a meal cooked by group members.
Some months, we may have a farm visit or a trip to some other place of interest.
Keep an eye on this page for details of our schedule.
